Before you can build a website you need to figure out what you’d like to promote, you need to find a niche for your website.

Ask yourself the following questions and write down all of your answers so that you have them to look back on after you’re done.

1:  What are some of your favorite things to do in your personal time?
(cook, read, garden, watch tv, etc.)

2: What are some hobbies that you enjoy?
(coin collecting, gardening, writing, etc.)

3: Do you have any pets? Is there anything you wish more information was available on line about?
(animal breed problems, safety recalls for pet products, how to train your pet, etc.)

The reason I asked you those questions is

1. If you pick something that you’re interested in and have knowledge about, the easier your research, writing and ultimately your website will be.

2.  You will be spending a lot of time working on your website and it is a lot more fun if your promoting information and products that you enjoy and have a basic knowledge of.

Here Is An Example of What I Mean:

I love board games, my friends and I get together at least once a month to just have some fun and play a new game.

All of the sites I found were either toy sites or reviews of the top # of games.  I wanted a bunch of games to look at and choose from.

It was hard to find any type of website that had different types of games for adults, so I built my own.

Feel free to take a peek at it  AdultPartyBoardGames.Com  Now I just built the actual site last weekend and it’s still a work in progress, they’re always a work in progress.

This was and is a lot of fun to work on because I love finding the new games and adding them for any other fellow adult gamers that enjoy a good old fashioned board game with friends.  I make money when someone purchases one of the games on the website and the greatest part about it is that I love working on it and researching this niche.

If you love what your researching about and writing about then you are bound to have a successful website.  So picking a niche that’s not only about making money but more about something you have a passion for, will make a huge difference in the successfulness of your websites.

Below are examples to get your head spinning and thinking about different niches you could use:

The above examples are just a few things that you could choose.  You want to choose something that you can build on, for example let me break down my thought process with the adult party board games niche.

I chose this niche because there wasn’t anyplace I could find online that offered an array of fun adult games that my friends and I could play.  Upon choosing this niche, I researched a little further so I could expand my website into categories, allowing me more room to expand my website in the future.

I found that there was an opportunity with the following categories of adult games that people where searching for:

  • Memory Games
  • Fun & Sexy Games
  • Drinking Games
  • Adult Card Games
  • Adult Bible Games
  • Adult 2 Player Games

People are searching for games in these categories and the searches brought them up to pages with a mixture of adult and kids games.  So I decided to make them part of the menu on my website which gives me a wide range of products to promote and sell to the people searching for them.

There are so many new games that come out constantly that I will never run out of products to promote to consumers looking for adult party board games.

Here are some of the questions you should ask yourself when choosing your niche:

  1. Can I expand and grow over time with the niche I’m choosing?
  2. What pages will I make on my website for my niche?
  3. Is there a need for the service or products in my niche?
  4. Will I be able to continue adding new information about my niche?
  5. Do I understand what my niche is and can I relate that to potential visitors on my website?
  6. Are there products to promote?

If you pick something that you have no clue about

it will be harder to identify with your audience.  Being able to socialize with your potential customers and answer any questions about what you’re promoting is crucial to being successful with your niche.  You have to think like a consumer when choosing what you want to promote and think about what you would expect to learn or buy when clicking on your website.
